Bowls Club. This website is intended to give new members or people just viewing, an introduction to the Club's organisation and activities.
History of the clubA.W.R.E. Bowling Club was founded in 1956, and the existing Bowling Green was officially opened on April 23rd 1960. The first match played on the green was against the County Presidents team, which ended in victory to the County by 72 shots to 55. MembershipIn order to become a member of the AWRE Bowling Club, applicants must be AWE Aldermaston Rec-Soc members. The Club has two classes of members, playing and social. Playing members are automatically entitled to take full part in all bowling and Club activities. Playing status of social members is limited to those Club matches played at indoor venues. The Club consists of separate sections for Lady and Men members. A Committee, in accordance with the Constitution and General Rules, approved January 2001 undertakes management of the Club. The Committee consists of Officers and elected Club members. The Officers of the Club are the President, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. These Officers and Committee members are elected at the Club AGM held in October. Sub-Committees are also appointed to assist in the running of the Club during the season. Contact InformationIn order to become a member of the AWRE Bowling Club, applicants must be AWE Aldermaston Rec-Soc me Generally during our season (Mid April - End September) there will be generally someone at the club either practicing or playing a match. Please feel free to come over and spend some time sitting on one of a number of benches around the rink and chatting to the various members. Booking a rink etcThe green is located within the grounds of the Rec Soc, behind the Rugby Club building which is to your right as you approach the main complex. The Green is open from April 18th until September 19th. During the week the green is open from mid-day, the mornings being reserved for upkeep and maintenance by the grounds staff. At weekends the green is open from dawn till dusk.Changing rooms are located next to the green and are accessed via the steps and balcony facing the green. There are separate facilities for gentlemen and ladies. Within the changing rooms lockers are available to members on application to the Secretary. Notice boards in the changing rooms carry details of competition draws, team selection notices and any other information that may be of interest to members. In order to book a rink it is necessary to complete the appropriate section of the rink booking chart located in the gentlemen's' changing room. Failure to ensure that a rink is available could result in a wasted journey.
EtiquetteBowls is a game of good fellowship and should be played in a friendly and
sporting manner. A bowler's behavior during a game not only demonstrates his own
character, but reflects on his Club as well.
Dress CodeThe general dress code for men whilst using the green and for league matches
is grey trousers, white top and brown bowling shoes. Ladies follow the same
colour code but can wear skirts or trousers. Dress for Club matches is shown in
the fixture card.
